Frankie Beverly and Maze were in Chicago this weekend for a concert. But if you were smart, you made your way over to Rumba on Thursday night to see a little bit of a mini-concert for free.
Frankie Beverly and Maze are the subject of a new tribute album. Artists such as Brian McKnight and Joe are covering traditional FB&M songs. It’s a very popular album, hence the crowd that came out that night.
Pastor Donald Lawrence, WGCI-107.5 FM was in the house, as was the legendary George, owner of George’s Music Room. WGCI’s program director was there, and of course, everybody’s favorite DJ, Ramon Ski Love, was the emcee for the event.
Below, see Ramon Ski and Frankie Beverly up on stage.

It’s nice to see the crowd gather around Frankie B. and snap pictures. Also nice to see Pastor Donald Lawrence in the house as well. He too is a fan, he told me. Although he wouldn’t be dancing at all – he didn’t want those pix to show up on Facebook. All kinds of Black folks were there, from every walk of life and every part of the city. And when the music came on, spun by DJ Phantom, the dance floor lit up as people stepped to the tune.

No one got hurt. No one got shot. And, no one was searched at the door. How ’bout that?
