It’s week eight of football, and I’m finally getting the hang of my fantasy team. I no longer feel like a freshman, or a virgin.
Lemme ‘splain why…
This week was the bye week for the Pats, which means (for you non-football readers) the Pats had a week off. Since Brady is my quarterback, I had to put someone else in his place just for this week. Earlier this season I’d picked up Jets’ QB Mark Sanchez because I was quite impressed that, earlier this season, the Jets pulverized the Pats.
Of course I had Sanchez on the back burner all this time. I also had MIami QB Chad Pennington, but I dropped him long ago because he was injured.
So all good. Insert Sanchez for Brady.
But wait! I also had Wes Welker as my dominant wide receiver.I had to replace him too. But all my bench players were also on bye week. FOlks such as Hines Ward from Pittsburg. Sigh.
I had to enlist the hubby to help me find a new WR about a half hour before game time. He was not happy. “Why didn’t you do this earlier this week? ” he asked. Said I: “I forgot. Please help.”
We went through the eligible free agents and found Braylon Edwards from the Jets. Hubby shared some strategy with me: If you get the QB and his wide receiver, and you get a touchdown, you’ll get double fantasy points.
I was sold. Bring Braylon on.
Turns out it was a fab game for Braylon and Mark. I mean, not Pats fab, but fab nonetheless. I wound up with 108 fantasy points (I also played Reggie Bush and Marques Colston with the Saints.) My opponent, who just so happened to be my cousin, wound up with 84 points. And his QB was Phillip Rivers.
Glad I won this bout. I’m now 3-5-0 (wins-losses-ties). I’m in 8th place in my league. (that’s out of 12) And, I’m third place in the NFC. If I win the next few games, I might get myself into the playoffs. So fingers crossed for Brady. I’m benching Sanchez again and putting Brady back into play.
You could spend all week researching who to play and the correct matchups and what not. I just spend an hour or so Sunday plotting out what to do with whoever is left in the queue. Is it perfect? No. But I’m no longer in last place either.
I’ve also been explaining fantasy football to my dad and various other Internet-challenged folks. I’ve gotten them interested. Perhaps fantasy is the way to get oldsters involved online? More on that later.
That is all.
